June 2006
Project in Nigeria
In May 2006, our Japanese and Koreans agencies organized
ocean freight shipment from Masan [Korea] to Onne [Nigeria].
Chartering a conventional vessel, SDV
International Logistics in Japan handled more than 1,000 tons
of steel structures, columns, drums and tubes. The eighty nine
packages weighted some 10 tons, ranging from 1.5 tons to a massive
depropanizer tower.
Most of the equipment was bare and lifted by the ship's heavy
crane and loaded into the cargo compartments of the vessel using
suitable ship's grummets, wire rope slings, spreaders and shackles
with careful handling to prevent any damage to the shipment. Finally,
the cargo was properly stowed in the best possible manner using
efficient wooden dunnages*
where needed.
All operation of "loading, storage and securing" was
performed within ninety six hours. This important cargo should
reach its destination port, Onne [Nigeria] before mid-June. There,
SDV International Logistics in Japan and Nigeria, will arrange
transshipment to barges for final delivery to Bonny Island.
* Dunnage is the
name for the materials used in holds and containers to protect
goods and their packaging from moisture, contamination and mechanical
damage.
